KINEON

Kinéon is a not-for-profit association, founded in 1995, which aims to bridge between archaeology and the wilder public. It organises every two years an International Film Festival in Brussels.,
The philosophy which underpins Kinéon is that while archaeology is concerned with ancient things, it is by no means an archaic science. Documentary films on archaeology effectively portray the use of a whole arsenal of techniques (from electronic microscope to robotics, from physio-chemical tests to real scale reconstructions) that make it possible to answer the many questions raised by this science. Similarly, films evolve with their time and rely more and more often on sophisticated methods to document archaeological excavations and discoveries. Digital images are a good example: used to complete publications, to undertake a virtual anastylosis or to visit a whole town, such computer aided pictures help both archaeologist and laypersons to penetrate the past.
Moreover, Kinéon is active through its Film festival in the preservation and protection of the cultural archaeological heritage, and plays through these films an important information and educational role.
Kinéon dedicates special attention to discoveries of less known archaeological sites, and emphasizes cinematographic productions from outside Europe as well as more recent films. Within the framework of the ACE project, Kinéon will organise two Film festivals in 2009 and 2010, each structured around a theme and including guest speakers: archaeology through the lens of the medias (literature, advertisement, movie, comics ...) and archaeology and politic.
